Course Information
What will I be learning?
This is a ‘hands on’ course that will introduce some of the ways in which computers can be used in the home. The pace is slow and aimed at building confidence when using computers.
Topics you will cover are as follows:
- To understand what parts of the computer are and how they work
- To be confident with the use of the mouse and keyboard
- Internet Basics – what different words (jargon) mean!
- Surfing – finding information on the internet quickly and efficiently
- Email – sending and receiving emails from a PC anywhere in the world!
- Security issues – what to look out for to stay safe online
Does the course lead to a qualification?
No, it doesn’t lead to a qualification but you will have informal assessments to monitor your progress
Who is the course for?
This course is for complete beginners to computers. If you have used a computer but have little or no confidence then this course will be ideal for you.
What do I need to bring?
You will be given high quality handouts so please bring a folder to keep these and all your work in.
Are there any additional costs?
There are no additional costs
How will I know how I am progressing during the course?
At DALS, we use an Individual Learning Plan (ILP) to set and review targets and provide feedback, enabling continual reflection and evaluation throughout the course. Learners will also receive verbal and/or written feedback on marked work. Learners will use their ILP to help track and monitor their own progress towards set goals, to support personal development and achievement.
There is no formal exam, although there is continual evaluation throughout the course.
Can I have help in the class?
At enrolment, it is important that you tell us if you have a learning difficulty or disability and require support. Learners declaring a support need will be referred for an assessment. If an enhanced support need is confirmed, a Support Package will be offered, to assist your progress in your learning and development, specific to your assessed needs.
