Course Information

What will I be learning?

Learn about Jewellery Design and make your own project on this 8-week online course. Topics covered will include:

-  Trend spotting

-  Gathering inspiration

 -  Designing a collection

 -  Creating maquettes to develop your ideas

 -  Breaking a creative block

 -  Selecting and sourcing your materials

 -  Making

 -  Costing

 -  Recording your processes

This is an online course, led by a Silversmithing tutor who will be online to answer your questions and demonstrate different techniques. Whether you are an advanced learner with access to Silversmithing equipment at home, or want to turn your textiles, beads or other items into jewllery, this course is adaptable to many backgrounds and levels of experience. No previous experience necessary.

You will need access to the internet to join online class. You will need to supply your own materials. At minimum this should include paper, pens and pencils. The project is adaptable to suit what you have home - you could even raid the recycling for bottle tops and cardboard if you limited supplies at home.

How will I know how I am progressing during the course?

Feedback will be given, both verbally and by the evaluation of completed tasks & projects.  You will receive verbal feedback on the results of your practical exercises.

There is no formal exam, although there is continual evaluation throughout the course.

Towards the end of each session you will use a DerbyLearn forum to record what you have done in class and comment on how you think you got on.  Before the next session your tutor will reply with their feedback.  This is a very good method of recording your own progress, reflecting on the session and a great way to receive motivation from your tutor.
