The AAT Foundation Certificate in Bookkeeping is an ideal starting point for anyone wishing to pursue a career in accountancy or finance.The purpose of the AAT Foundation Certificate in Bookkeeping is to offer grounding in the core accounting knowledge and skills needed to progress either to employment or to further study. This qualification is suitable for people studying bookkeeping or returning to work after a break or for anyone wishing to change career. The Foundation Certificate is open to those who are working and those who are not currently in employment. This qualification could also help someone who is already working in an entry-level finance role to progress in their career by offering them development and formal recognition of their skills.
What are the entry requirements
Learners do not need formal qualifications to enrol on this course. However, you will need to have Functional Maths, English and IT skills.Additionally, before enrolling on the course you will attend an initial assessment to enable the tutor to provide advise if this course is suitable for you.
What will I be learning
This course will support you to develop a strong foundation of bookkeeping knowledge and skills needed to work in accountancy and finance or to go on to study higher-level bookkeeping or accountancy.The qualification is composed of two mandatory units, assessed in two end-of-unit assessments:
Introduction to Bookkeeping
Bookkeeping Controls
A student completing this qualification will develop practical accountancy skills in the double-entry bookkeeping system and in using associated documents and processes. Students will be able to check transactions for accuracy, make entries in appropriate books and ledgers, and calculate sales invoices and credit notes.
They will also cover more complex foundation level bookkeeping procedures, including dealing with VAT, reconciliation and trial balances, and will develop their understanding of the relationship between the various accounting records.
How will I be assessed and supported
At the beginning of the course, you will be given an individual learning plan and each week you will be asked to fill in things that you have learned after each session has finished. In addition, your tutor will be giving you weekly verbal and written feedback on your progress.Each term you will have a 1 to 1 tutorial with your tutor to discuss your progress.

There is an exam registration fee of approximately £194, this fee is set by the exam board so is subject to change.Exam Re-sit fee is £63.00 per unit
