If you are interested in using counselling skills in a helping role or wish to prepare to train as counsellor in the long term, this course is for youWhat are the entry requirements
To enrol on this course, you must be 19+ and already have achieved CPCAB level 2 Certificate in Counselling Skills or equivalent.You will be required to attend an information and assessment session prior to being able to enrol on this course.
What will I be learning
On this course you will learn a variety of relevant skills used in helping work including:Safe and ethical practice
Development and practice of skills
An overview of the main counselling approaches /theories.
Managing a counselling relationship from the beginning, middle to the end.
Giving and receiving feedback
Self awareness and reflection
This course requires you to join a weekly theory and skills
practice session.
How will I be assessed and supported
Throughout the course you will receive written and verbal feedback from your tutor on written and practical activities. You will also give and receive feedback to and from other learners in the class on practical skills.To achieve the qualification, you will build up a portfolio of evidence to demonstrate your competence in all of the criteria. This portfolio will evidence your competence in developing understanding of ethics and theory and use of practical helping/counselling skills.
Your portfolio will include:
Weekly reflective learning journals
A case study
Peer and tutor observations of your practical skills
An assignment
A research project on the application of counselling skills in allied professions
At enrolment, it is important that you tell us if you have a
learning difficulty or disability which may require support. If you declare a
support need, you will be referred for an assessment to identify what support
can be provided
What do I need to bring?
For all courses learners need to access resources on our learning platform and upload work to an eportfolio; you will need suitable IT equipment i.e. laptop, tablet, pc and internet access.For face to face courses you will also need to bring a pen and notepaper and you will need an A4 ring binder.
