Who is this course for
If you are interested in starting your career in bookkeeping or accountancy, this is the first step. Ideal for people who have little or no formal knowledge of bookkeeping,this qualification will help learn basic skills to aid progression into further learning. This qualification will also be of benefit to people who are self-employed or working in small businesses who wish to do their own bookkeeping.
What are the entry requirements
You do not need formal qualifications to enrol on this course. However, you will need to have basic Maths, English and IT skills.Before enrolling on the course you will need to attend an Information and Assessment session, so the tutor can advise you if this is the best course for you.
What will I be learning
The AAT Award in Bookkeeping offers you the opportunity to develop practical bookkeeping skills.On this course you will:
Develop an understanding of the role of the bookkeeper, including the need for confidentiality and accuracy.
Learn underpinning theory: including how to identify assets, liabilities, income and expenses.
Learn how to identify profit and loss, and the differences between trading for cash and trading on credit
Develop the skills to process customer and supplier transactions e.g. to enter receipts and payments into the cash book and check amounts against the bank statement in preparation for bank reconciliation.
Be introduced to the dual effect of transactions, which is a fundamental underpinning concept for double-entry bookkeeping.
How will I be assessed and supported
You will have an Individual Learning Plan to set and review targets and provide feedback, enabling continual reflection and evaluation throughout the course. You will also receive verbal and written feedback on marked work. You will use your ILP to help track and monitor your own progress towards set goals, to support personal development and achievement.At the end of the course, you will complete an online exam which you need to pass to achieve the qualification.

There is an exam registration fee of approximately £84, this fee is set by the exam board so is subject to change. This fee includes registration with AAT and access to their online resources. If you need to re-sit the exam, the fee is £38.You may be eligible for a fee remission if you're claiming eligible benefits or on a low wage. Our staff will confirm this when you complete your initial assessment before enrolling.
