Who is this course for
FEES almost all of our maths and English classes are fully funded meaning you will not need to pay fees. Our staff will provide more information once you've booked your assessment.This course helps you to work towards your own personal skills and goals and prepare for completing a Functional Maths course in the future. This workshop style course will be personalised to your individual needs whatever point you are at in your learning journey.
Your tutor will create a topic based learning programme that could also include elements of English, digital skills, confidence building, employability and study skills as required to best support your progression.
What are the entry requirements
There are no formal entry requirements for this course, but an initial assessment will be completed prior to enrolling onto this course to check prior knowledge and ensure you join the correct level course.If English is not your first language, you will need to have passed or be working towards entry level 3 ESOL or equivalent to join a maths course at DALS.
What will I be learning
The course is aligned to the Functional Skills syllabus. However, you will be working towards topics that are suitable for your ability.Together with your tutor, you will decide what learning areas you need to focus on to meet your individual skills gaps, this could include

Measure, Shape and Space
Handling Data
Understanding both non calculator and calculator methods
Managing your money
Time management skills
Personal presentation and job search skills
Identifying areas that you need help with
Developing independent study skills
Gaining or improving the skills needed for everyday life and work
Improving your confidence and self esteem
How will I be assessed and supported
At DALS, we use an Individual Learning Plan to set and review targets and provide feedback, enabling continual reflection and evaluation throughout the course. You will also receive verbal and written feedback on marked work. You will use your ILP to help track and monitor your own progress towards set goals, to support personal development and achievement.At enrolment, it is important that you tell us if you have a learning difficulty or disability which may require support. If you declare a support need, you will be referred for an assessment to identify what support can be provided
