Who is this course for

This course is for anyone with a learning disability/difficulty who would wants to learn catering skills.

This course is for learners with no previous experience, who want to gain an introduction to catering.

What are the entry requirements

There are no entry requirements for this course.

What will I be learning

On this course we will find out about opportunities for getting involved in activities in the local community.

On the course you will:

Develop skills for work or to volunteer in a catering environment.
Learn basic food preparation skills.
Learn about Health & Safety in the kitchen.
Learn personal presentation.
Learn customer service skills.
Learn how to work together as part of a team.
Work in our Community Cafe preparing, cooking, and serving food to the public.

How will I be assessed and supported

At the beginning of your course you will talk to the tutor about why you have chosen this course and what you want to learn to be able to do. During the course you will use an Individual Learning Plan (ILP) to review your progress towards these targets with your tutor. Each week you will be asked to think about what has gone well and what you need to work on next. Your tutor will give you feedback on this as well.

Throughout the course your tutor will talk to you about your progress and every term you will have a short meeting with your tutor.

If you need help to read and write your tutor or a support worker will help you with this.

What do I need to bring?

 A folder
