Who is this course for

For anyone with a learning disability/difficulty who would like to improve their skills for independent living.

What are the entry requirements

There are no entry requirements for this course.

What will I be learning

This course is about the responsibilities involved in living independently.
You will find out about budgeting, staying safe and the things you need to think about when running your own home.
You will think about the skills you already have and those you need help with you will make a plan of the skills you need to develop and identify how you can do this.
The course will involve taking part in practical activities and trips out.

How will I be assessed and supported

At the beginning of your course you will talk to the tutor about why you have chosen this course and what you want to learn to be able to do. During the course you will use an Individual Learning Plan (ILP) to review your progress towards these targets with your tutor. Each week you will be asked to think about what has gone well and what you need to work on next. Your tutor will give you feedback on this as well.
Throughout the course your tutor will talk to you about your progress and every term you will have a short meeting with your tutor.
If you need help to read and write your tutor or a support worker will help you with this.
