This course is suitable for anyone over the age of 19 who
Has attempted to support a colleague, family member or friend in a time of distress and wished they could have done this better.
Is thinking of working in a counselling or helping role.
Supports or manages staff.

What are the entry requirements

Must have a reasonable standard of English.

What will I be learning

When and how counselling skills can be used:

How to write a reflective journal
How to use listening skills effectively
Course requirement for the Level 2 counselling skills certificate

How will I be assessed and supported

On this course we use an Individual Learning Plan (ILP) to set and review targets and provide feedback, enabling continual reflection and evaluation throughout the course. Learners will also receive verbal and/or written feedback on marked work and feedback on practical skills during activities.

There is no formal exam, although there is continual evaluation throughout the course.
In addition to the face to face learning you will have access to a range of additional resources and activities on our online learning platform, Derby Learn.

You will need to bring a pen and folder.

What can this course lead to

You could progress to a Level 2 Certificate in Counselling Skills.
