Who is this course for

This course is ideal for people who have little or no formal knowledge of bookkeeping.
This qualification may help you to move on to further study in either accountancy or bookkeeping with AAT, offer a route into employment or be of interest to those already in employment. This qualification will also be of benefit to people who are self-employed or working in small businesses who wish to do their own bookkeeping.

What are the entry requirements

Learners do not need formal qualifications to enrol on this course. However, you will need to have basic Maths, English and IT skills.
Additionally, before enrolling on the course learners need to attend an Information and Assessment session.

What will I be learning

The AAT Access Award in Bookkeeping offers students the opportunity to develop practical bookkeeping skills.
On this course you will:
Develop an understanding of the role of the bookkeeper, including the need for confidentiality and accuracy.
Learn underpinning theory: including how to identify assets, liabilities, income and expenses.
Learn how to identify profit and loss, and the differences between trading for cash and trading on credit develop the skills to process customer and supplier transactions (to enter receipts and payments into the cash book and check amounts against the bank statement in preparation for bank reconciliation).
Be introduced to the dual effect of transactions (a fundamental underpinning concept for double-entry bookkeeping).

How will I be assessed and supported

At the beginning of the course you will be given an individual learning plan and each week you will be asked to fill in things that you have learnt after each session has finished.
In addition, your tutor will be giving you weekly verbal and written feedback on your progress.
At the end of the course learners will complete an online exam.

What do I need to bring?

You will need to bring a pen and folder.

There is an exam registration fee of approximately £84, this fee is set by the exam board so is subject to change.
Exam Re-sit fee is £38
