Who is this course for

This course is suitable for anyone who is thinking of working in schools and colleges as a Teaching assistant with children 7 years of age and above.

What are the entry requirements

Learners must already have a Level 1 English qualification (or equivalent) or be assessed as able to work at this level. Learners who do not already have this qualification will be assessed for English prior to enrolment on the course.

Anyone wishing to enrol on this course will need to attend an initial assessment session prior to the course starting to ensure that this is an appropriate course for them and that they understand the course requirements.

Learners will need to be working, volunteering or on a practical placement as an important part of the assessment process for this qualification involves evaluating skills in a real working situation.

A DBS is mandatory for this course. Therefore, any disclosures must be discussed with the Tutor before assessment to ensure your suitability on to any of our childcare courses.

What will I be learning

This qualification is designed to help learners build the knowledge and skills needed when working with children and young people in school and college settings.

The course is made up of classroom taught knowledge and assessments of competence in school/college settings. You will be set weekly tasks to complete throughout the course to build up a portfolio of knowledge evidence. In addition, you will be assigned an assessor who will visit you in your placement to carry out observations of skills in the workplace.
On this course you will learn how to:
Support childrens individual and personal needs.
Support the planning and delivery of learning activities.
Observe, record and monitor a childs progress.
Support childrens development needs.
Work in line with relevant policies and procedures including health and safe
equality, inclusion, diversity, and safeguarding.

How will I be assessed and supported

There is no exam for this course. However, you will collect an e-portfolio / folder of evidence showing what you have learned and your skills in the school.

What do I need to bring?

You will need to bring a pen and folder and copies of your qualifications and DBS check.
