Who is this course for

This course is aimed at all those who wish to work, or are working, in a lead adult care worker role in health and social care settings.

What are the entry requirements

Learners must already have a Level 2 English qualification or be assessed as able to work at this level. Learners who do not already have this qualification will be assessed for English prior to enrolment on the course.

Anyone wishing to enrol on this course will need to attend an initial assessment session prior to the course starting to ensure that this is an appropriate course for them and that they understand the course requirements.

A DBS is mandatory for this course. Therefore, any disclosures must be discussed with the Tutor before assessment to ensure your suitability for this course.

Learners will use an e-portfolio. Full instruction on how to use this will be given by the tutor but learners will need to have basic computer skills.

What will I be learning

This qualification develops the knowledge and skills needed when working in a lead adult care worker role in care settings. It covers a wide range of areas including supporting individuals with their physical and emotional care, daily living needs and health and social care procedures.

The course is made up of classroom taught knowledge and assessments of competence in care settings.

On this course you will study nine mandatory units:

Handling Information
Personal Development
Person-Centred Approaches
Equality, Diversity and Inclusion
Health, Safety and Wellbeing
Responsibilities of a Care Worker
Duty of Care
Safeguarding and Protection

How will I be assessed and supported

You will be set weekly tasks to complete throughout the course to build up a portfolio of knowledge evidence. In addition, you will be assigned an assessor who will visit you in your placement to carry out observations of skills in the workplace.

On the course you will:
Have lectures on various topics
Take part in discussions and group work
Complete worksheets and assignments
Demonstrate your competence to your assessor on your placement.

This course does not have an exam.

During the course you will collect a folder of evidence to show that you have achieved the required criteria.

Throughout the course you will receive verbal and written feedback from your tutor and assessor on your progress. You will be asked to take part in termly tutorials to discuss your progress and agree your next steps.

What can this course lead to

You could progress to an apprenticeship or qualification such as the level 4 Diploma in Care or the Lead Practitioner in Adult Care apprenticeship: alternatively, onto a level 5 apprenticeship or a qualification or apprenticeship on Leadership and Management in Adult Care.
