What will I be learning

On this course you will:

Learn how to use a defined range of counselling skills.
Consider why you would use specific skills in particular situations.
Understand the importance of using counselling skills ethically and within the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy's (BACP) Ethical Framework for Good Practice in Counselling
This is a qualification course and there is an expectation that learners will complete work outside of the taught sessions.

During the sessions you will take part in weekly skills practice.
You will also be required to complete work outside of class time: you will write a weekly reflective journal and one assignment during the course.

How will I be assessed and supported

Throughout the course you will receive written and verbal feedback from your tutor on written and practical activities. You will also give and receive feedback from other learners in the class on practical skills.
To achieve the qualification you will build up a portfolio of evidence to demonstrate your competence in all of the criteria. This portfolio will evidence your competence in theory and practical skills.

At enrolment, it is important that you tell us if you have a learning difficulty or disability and require support. Learners declaring a support need will be referred for an assessment. If an enhanced support need is confirmed, a Support Package will be offered, to assist your progress in your learning and development, specific to your assessed needs.
