Who is this course for

The course is perfect for beginners or those already working in the care sector who wish to develop knowledge and understanding of what dementia is and how to support individuals with dementia, including understanding a range of theoretical models of dementia and types of dementia.
This qualification is great for updating and continuing your professional development and to develop knowledge/skills.
It is a flexible course, where you can study anywhere, anytime.

As this is course leads to a level 2 qualification, it requires your commitment of a few hours per week learning and completing the assessment questions.  Depending on the amount of units/assessment questions, it should take on average 3 to 4 months to complete.  However, it may take less time, depending on how quickly you complete the assessments.

What are the entry requirements

There are no specific entry requirements however you should have a minimum of level one in literacy and numeracy or equivalent.

What will I be learning

You will look at the role of carers, in the care and support of individuals with dementia via the seven mandatory units:
Dementia awareness.
The person-centred approach to the care and support of individuals with dementia.
Understand the factors that can influence communication and interaction with individuals who have dementia.
Understand equality, diversity, and inclusion in dementia care.
Understand the administration of medication to individuals with dementia using a person-centred approach.
Understand behaviour in the context of dementia.
Understand the benefits of engaging in activities in social care.

How will I be assessed and supported

During the course you will access online materials to support your learning and will work through online assessments as you progress.  You will be supported by your tutor.

What do I need to bring?

This is an online course you will need access to a computer, laptop and the internet to be able to complete the course.

This qualification is run on a platform via the internet using the online EQUAL learning platform.
