Who is this course for
If you want to work as a Teaching Assistant in schools or colleges, this course is for you.What are the entry requirements
You will need to be 19+ and have Level 2 English skills or be assessed as able to work as this level.You will also need to have the Level 2 Certificate in Supporting Teaching and Learning or have a significant amount of experience supporting children and young people to learn.
Before you enrol on this course, you will need to attend an initial assessment session to ensure that this is an appropriate course for you.
A DBS is mandatory for this course. Therefore, any disclosures must be discussed with the Tutor before assessment to ensure your suitability.
You will need to have basic computer skills and access to a computer with internet facilities.
What will I be learning
This qualification will help you to build the knowledge and skills needed when working with children and young people in school and college settings.The course is made up of classroom taught knowledge and assessments of competence in school/college settings. You will be set weekly tasks to complete throughout the course to build up a portfolio of knowledge evidence. In addition, you will be assigned an assessor who will visit you in your placement to carry out observations of skills in the workplace.
On this course you will learn how to:
Support children’s individual and personal needs.
Support the planning and delivery of learning activities.
Observe, record and monitor a child’s progress.
Support children’s development needs.
Work in line with relevant policies and procedures including health and safety, equality,
inclusion, diversity, and safeguarding.
You will need to be working, volunteering or on a practical
placement as an important part of the assessment process for this qualification
involves evaluating skills in a real working
situation.
How will I be assessed and supported
Throughout the course, you will receive written and verbal feedback from your tutor on written and practical activities. You will also give and receive feedback from other learners in the class on practical skills.To achieve the qualification, you will build up a portfolio of evidence to demonstrate your competence in all the criteria. This portfolio will evidence your competence in theory and practical skills.
At enrolment, it is important that you tell us if you have a
learning difficulty or disability which may require support. If you declare a
support need, you will be referred for an assessment to identify what support
can be provided
What do I need to bring?
You will need to access resources on our learning platform and upload work to an e-portfolio, therefore you will need suitable IT equipment i.e. laptop, tablet, pc and internet access.You will also need to bring a pen and notepaper.
Any additional costs?
Yes, a registration fee of £112.50You may be eligible for a fee remission if you're claiming
eligible benefits or on a low wage. Our staff will confirm this when you
complete your initial assessment before enrolling.
What can this course lead to
Upon successful completion of this course, you can gain employment as a Teaching assistant or progress onto the NCFE Level 3 Certificate in Supporting Teaching and Learning course.We have lots of courses planned to ensure you have a variety
