You will need to have basic computer skills and access to a computer with internet facilities.

What will I be learning

This qualification will help you to build the knowledge and skills needed when working with children and young people in school and college settings.
The course is made up of classroom taught knowledge and assessments of competence in school/college settings. You will be set weekly tasks to complete throughout the course to build up a portfolio of knowledge evidence. In addition, you will be assigned an assessor who will visit you in your placement to carry out observations of skills in the workplace.
On this course you will learn how to:
Support children’s individual and personal needs.
Support the planning and delivery of learning activities.
Observe, record and monitor a child’s progress.
Support children’s development needs.
Work in line with relevant policies and procedures including health and safety, equality,
inclusion, diversity, and safeguarding.

You will need to be working, volunteering or on a practical placement as an important part of the assessment process for this qualification involves evaluating skills in a real working situation.

How will I be assessed and supported

Throughout the course, you will receive written and verbal feedback from your tutor on written and practical activities. You will also give and receive feedback from other learners in the class on practical skills.
To achieve the qualification, you will build up a portfolio of evidence to demonstrate your competence in all the criteria. This portfolio will evidence your competence in theory and practical skills.

At enrolment, it is important that you tell us if you have a learning difficulty or disability which may require support. If you declare a support need, you will be referred for an assessment to identify what support can be provided
