This course is designed specifically for deaf learners who want to develop their Maths skills in a fully accessible learning environment. The course is taught by a deaf tutor who uses British Sign Language and lip reading.

The short topic-based courses e.g. Time, Money, Measuring, help learners build confidence and develop a wide range of number skills throughout the year.

What are the entry requirements

There are no formal entry requirements. You do not need to complete an assessment before joining. You will be assessed during the course to check progress and ensure you are working at the right level.

What will I be learning

Each short course focuses on a key real-life maths area such as Time, Money, or Measuring, while also building confidence in essential number skills.
You will develop:
Your skills in working with numbers and calculations.
Practical maths skills for everyday situations.
Topic-specific skills related to time, money, or measurement.
Confidence in problem solving and applying maths.
Study skills to support your learning and progression.

How will I be assessed and supported

Teaching and support is fully accessible for deaf learners. The course is delivered by a deaf tutor who communicates using BSL and lip reading, and a second communicator will be present to ensure all learners have clear access to information, instructions, and support.
At DALS, we use an Individual Learning Plan to set and review targets and provide feedback, enabling continual reflection and evaluation throughout the course. You will also receive verbal and written feedback on marked work. You will use your ILP to help track and monitor your own progress towards set goals, to support your personal development and achievement.
At enrolment, it is important that you tell us if you have a learning difficulty or disability which may require support. Learners declaring a support need will be referred for an assessment. If an enhanced support need is confirmed, a Support Package will be offered, to assist your progress in your learning and development, specific to your assessed needs.

What do I need to bring?

Pen, pencil, ruler, a notebook, calculator and a folder.

Any additional costs?
