Who is this course for

If you have a learning disability and is interested in of a career in catering or customer services, we can support you to reach your goals.

What are the entry requirements

You will need to have had some experience of catering. This may be a previous course, or paid or voluntary work.

What will I be learning

This course is based in our Better Together Cafe in the Council House. You will work in the cafe preparing and servinge food and drinks to customers, cleaning, etc.
On this course you will also learn about
food safety,
cleaning,
customer service,
teamwork, and
kitchen safety.
At the end of the course, we can help you to write a CV, application form or look for job vacancies.

How will I be assessed and supported

At the beginning of the course, your tutor will talk to you about the skills you need to learn. While you are on the course you will collate a folder of evidence demonstrating your competence in catering.
You will be given an individual learning plan, and each week you will be asked to fill in things that you have learnt after each session. In addition, your tutor will be giving you weekly verbal and written feedback on your progress.

What do I need to bring?

You will need to bring a pen and folder.

Lunch and drinks are provided free of charge.

What can this course lead to

Upon successful completion of this course, you will be able to progress onto Level 1 NVQ in Hospitality and catering, other employability courses or into employment in hospitality and catering.
