Who is this course for

Are you thinking about working in schools or colleges as a volunteer or Teaching Assistant.
Or are you a parent or carer who would like to understand more about how to best support your child’s development.
If so, this course is for you.

What are the entry requirements

There are no specific entry requirements.  However ideally, you should have a Level 1 English qualification or a equivalent or be working towards this level.

If you don’t have this qualification, your English levels will be assessed prior to enrolment on the course.

What will I be learning

You will learn about

Child development and potential influences that could impact on development.
Healthy eating and importance of a nutritious diet to support growth and development.
Learning strategies and how to support children with their learning. 
You will take part in discussions and practical activities as well as completing written tasks to support your learning.
You will need to carry out additional work outside the class, such as watching videos or accessing our online learning platform with additional resources to support your learning.

How will I be assessed and supported

There is no formal assessment for this course.
At the beginning of the course, you will set some goals with your tutor.
Each week you will keep a reflective diary recording your progress.
After each session your tutor will give you some written feedback on this diary to let you know what you are doing well with and anything you could do to improve.
Your tutor will also give you verbal feedback during classes and written feedback on your work.
At the end of the course, you will review your progress and discuss with your progression route.

What do I need to bring?

Pen and paper.

It will be helpful if you have access to a PC, laptop, tablet or smart phone with internet access or can use these in a local library.  However, this is not essential.

There is no additional cost to this course.

What can this course lead to

We have lots of courses available providing a variety of progression routes, including NCFE CACHE Level 1 Award in Preparing to Work in Schools and NCFE CACHE Level 2 Certificate in Supporting Teaching and Learning.
