Course Information

This is an online course taught via Zoom

What will I be learning?

The Level 1 Award in Awareness of Substance Misuse enables you to develop knowledge and understanding of substance misuse and its potential effects on individuals and others.

Each of the unit’s outcomes represents a small step of learning, this allows the qualification to be completed at your own pace (18 hours) and with tutor guidance (6 hours).

Does the course lead to a qualification?

Yes. This is a nationally recognised Level 1 Award in Awareness of Substance Misuse.

Who is the course for?

Those who would benefit from it as part of their personal and social development, and those employed or looking for work in sectors where a general understanding of substance misuse will support their job role.

Learners do not need to be working as this is a knowledge only qualification.

What do I need?

Bring yourself, your chosen materials to take notes and a willingness to learn and have a go!

In order to be able to participate in this course you must:

1. Have access to regular, stable internet connection

2. Have access to a PC or Laptop. You may use your smartphone/tablet or have one handy as a backup, although they sometimes may not support all the features that are required to participate effectively in online sessions.

3. Have an up-to-date email address and be able to confidently communicate via email.

Are there any additional costs?

There may be a small exam and/or administration fee (tbc).

How will I know how I am progressing during the course?

This qualification is assessed via a mandatory workbook that you will complete. Your tutor will assess your work as well as provide guidance and feedback.

At DALS, we use an Individual Learning Plan (ILP) to set and review targets and provide feedback, enabling continual reflection and evaluation throughout the course. Learners will also receive verbal and/or written feedback on marked work. Learners will use their ILP to help track and monitor their own progress towards set goals, to support personal development and achievement.

Can I have help in the class?

At enrolment, it is important that you tell us if you have a learning difficulty or disability and require support. Learners declaring a support need will be referred for an assessment. If an enhanced support need is confirmed, a Support Package will be offered, to assist your progress in your learning and development, specific to your assessed needs.
