Course Information

Walking has been proven to help our physical and mental health, apart from being a gentle form of exercise, it’s also a great way to improve your confidence in being outdoors again and being around other people.

What will I be learning?

Mindfulness - being mindful means concentrating on what is happening around you now and not worrying about what has happened in the past or might happen in the future. Being mindful can help you to take some time away from your worries and stresses and enjoy the moment.

  • Understand more about what it means to be mindful
  • Noticing our surroundings
  • Build social confidence
  • Learning about our history and community
  • Try out some practical relaxation techniques.

Who is the course for?

  • This course is for anybody who is wanting to help themselves to become less stressed.
  • Feel more confident around others
  • Feel more confident outside.
  • Build their resilience.

What do I need to bring?

At enrolment you will be given a letter which asks you to bring a face mask, visor and talks about your support needs.

If you need to bring someone with you it is very important you let us know straight away, as this affects the amount of people we can have in a group, even outdoors.

Please bring with you:

Your health questionnaire, this will be given to you on week 1; this will be kept private, only your tutor and support worker will see this. Please bring this with you, if you don't, you won't be able to go walking with the group.

  • Face mask
  • Drinks/snacks
  • Money for travel and refreshments
  • Pens
  • Comfy shoes/boots/trainers
  • Sunscreen
  • Coat
  • Umbrella

Are there any additional costs?

No

How will I know how I am progressing during the course?

Each session you will be supported to fill in a what went well sheet, your tutor and support worker will write and talk to you about how you are getting on, each term you can look at your goals to see if you are reaching them.

When you have finished this course, you could go on to do:

Any other wellbeing courses or one of our leisure courses, like music or pottery to name but a few.

Your teacher and support worker will talk to you about this towards the end of your course.

Health and Wellbeing

The slogan you see on our brochures and leaflets is:   meet  enjoy  learn  achieve .

This is because we believe that taking part in adult and community learning can open the door to new friendships, give you something enjoyable and worthwhile to do with your time, enable you to learn something new and give you a sense of achievement. That's got to make you feel good!
