Course Information

This is an online course taught via Zoom

What will I be learning?

On the course you will-

  • Discuss the benefits of being confident
  • Consider the impact confident behaviour has on others perceptions of someone
  • Identify factors which can affect confidence and self-esteem
  • Develop strategies to improve confidence.

Does the course lead to a qualification?

No

What does the course involve?

We will establish group guidelines to create a safe environment as this course is cantered in the area of health and wellbeing. It requires that you have the ability to take part in activities, reading and writing. If you need support to read and or write you will need to arrange your own support or make enquiries to see if there are any learning partners available to support you.

If your confidence is low and you need a trusted support to attend with you then they can enrol onto the course and remain with you while you move through the programme. You may feel confident enough to participate on you own after a few weeks and that is fine too, You will only be able to enrol if this support is agreed by the start of the course.

We will use Cognitive Behavioural Theory to help explain the fight flight and freeze system when thinking of how we can support a more positive way of thinking and thereby assist confidence. We will look at a very basic level of transactional analysis to help us understand some of our communications. We will take an approach of always being kind to ourselves and others in our thinking so that we reduce the stress and guilt that we can easily burden ourselves with. We will consider other theories such as Maslow’s hierarchy of needs as we take a journey through this course and where we find ourselves now.

Everything will be explained in simple terms and made interesting and relevant. You will need to be able to make a good commitment to yourself to attend so that you don’t miss any of the content as it builds your understanding week by week. Even missing one week and throw you out of the flow of understanding.

You will find yourself wanting to come back week after week as you see and feel how much of this is ‘all about you’ and your growth and development.

Who is the course for?

You may once have been a confident person but life has taken its toll and now you don’t really recognise yourself or you may always have felt that you need something more to help you take a look at what you can do to help yourself.

You may have had a period of illness that has left you feeling that the world is still overwhelming but you know you want to make a start at re-engaging. If this sounds like you, then this course may be for you.

What do I need?

Bring your commitment to your health and wellbeing and a pen, everything else is provided.

To connect to your online course via Zoom, you will need:

  • An electronic device of your choice connected to the Internet
  • An email address

Are there any additional costs?

No

How will I know how I am progressing during the course?

Feedback will be given, both verbally and by the evaluation of completed tasks & projects.  You will receive verbal feedback on the results of your practical exercises.

At DALS, we use an Individual Learning Plan (ILP) to set and review targets and provide feedback, enabling continual reflection and evaluation throughout the course. Learners will use their ILP to help track and monitor their own progress towards set goals, to support personal development and achievement.

[There is no formal exam, although there is continual evaluation throughout the course].

Can I have help in the class?

At enrolment, it is important that you tell us if you have a learning difficulty or disability and require support. Learners declaring a support need will be referred for an assessment. If an enhanced support need is confirmed, a Support Package will be offered, to assist your progress in your learning and development, specific to your assessed needs.

To any of the courses that are suitable for your current level of learning and interest. We will look more at this towards the end of the course.

Health and Wellbeing

The slogan you see on our brochures and leaflets is:   meet  enjoy  learn  achieve
This is because we believe that taking part in adult and community learning can open the door to new friendships, give you something enjoyable and worthwhile to do with your time, enable you to learn something new and give you a sense of achievement.  That's got to make you feel good!

Volunteering opportunities

We have a number of rewarding volunteering opportunities both within DALS and with other organisations.  These can offer you a number of benefits, including the ability to enhance your employment prospects, and the ability to learn whilst supporting others.  If you are interested in finding out more about volunteering opportunities, please contact enquiries on 01332 956565 or email DALSenquiries@derby.gov.uk.
